Headquartered in Reno, Sierra Pacific Power is the electric utility for most of northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area of California. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE: SRP), a holding company whose other subsidiaries include Nevada Power, which serves most of southern Nevada.
Established during the gold and silver mining boom of the 1800s, Sierra Pacific Power has an electric service territory of more than 50,000 square miles in western, central and northeastern Nevada and northeastern California. It also serves gas customers in the Reno-Sparks area.

Community
At Sierra Pacific, we're committed to making our community a better place. Here are some of the ways we do that:
- In 2007, SAFE helped 1,720 households with $277,822 in utility bill assistance.
- SAFE has been a community resource for energy assistance since 1983. Over the past decade, SAFE has served 21,181 customers with over $2.8 million in utility assistance.
- In 2007 our employees, retirees and their friends and families volunteered 9,380 hours. The total dollar value for Sierra Pacific
- Power’s employee volunteer efforts for 2007 is estimated at $176,062.60. (9,380 hours x $18.77).
- Our Charitable Foundation donated approximately $860,000 to civic, youth, arts and culture, environmental and educational organizations in 2007.
- We recycle and reuse paper, bottles, aluminum cans, motor oil, newspaper and other by-products of our business. We even recycle used refrigerators.
- We sponsor conservation and weatherization programs to educate people about ways to save on their utility bills, and ways to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
- Our GreenPower program is installing solar panels on schools in northern Nevada in partnership with the Desert Research Institute.
- Our retirees remain active in supporting the community, sponsoring a variety of volunteer programs that assist seniors.
