Natural Gas Reaches Milestone in Reno-Sparks
Sierra Pacific Power Feature Stories

Natural gas as an important energy source for northern Nevada reached a milestone recently when Sierra Pacific hooked up its 100,000th customer. A celebration was held at the time natural gas service was turned on at the Reno home of Pete and Gloria Gavazzi. Reno Mayor Jeff Griffin assisted in lighting the Gavazzis' new appliances.

As part of the celebration, the Gavazzis received a new high efficiency Lennox furnace donated by Ray Heating and a new water heater donated by R Supply. Ray Heating also donated labor for installation of all the new facilities.

Natural gas has become the energy of choice for northern Nevada because of its attractive price and environmental benefits, according to Jeff Ceccarelli, director of customer operations for Sierra Pacific.

"More and more residents are realizing that they can save considerable amounts of money by converting heating and cooling in their homes and businesses to natural gas," he said. Natural gas is approximately 25 percent less expensive than heating oil and 55 percent less expensive than propane for heating homes.

Natural gas has been an important energy component for Reno and Sparks since 1963. Reno-Sparks residents interested in converting to natural gas can call Sierra Pacific at 834-4800 for more information.
