Equal Payment Plan
Sierra Pacific Power Feature Stories

With the Equal Payment Plan/Budget Billing, your Sierra Pacific Power Company bill isn't always changing. Normally, monthly payments remain the same over the entire year. So your bills don't go up during the colder winter season when you use more energy. That makes it easier for you to budget.

Your Equal Payment amount is calculated by applying current rates to your actual use for the past 12 months. Your bill will show an Equal Payment amount due each month.

Your monthly bill will look almost the same as usual. It will show:

  1. Exact meter readings for the month.
  2. Exact charges for the amount of utility services you used.
  3. Exact costs that would normally be due.
  4. The Equal Payment amount due.

Aligning EPP Billing and Actual Billing

The plan is designed so the amount you pay each month does not change. But,this amount could change at any time if your use of electricity, gas or water changes dra matically. Additionally,if there is an overall rate change of 5 percent or more, your Equal Payment amount could be adjusted. If it is determined your Equal Payment billing and actual billing are not aligned,a new Equal Payment amount may be computed, and any debit or credit balance remaining will be spread over the new Equal Payment amount.

Settling Up After 12 Months

You settle up at the end of your 12-month period for the Equal Payment Plan. If you did not pay enough, you can either pay the actual balance due or the underpayment will be averaged into the next Equal Payment year.If you've overpaid for the year, your account will be credited. If the credit is $100 or more, you'll receive a refund check.

How to Stop

You'll be able to compare the cost of your actual use to the monthly Equal Payment amount. If you find the plan is not for you, you can stop at any time by writing or calling your local Sierra Pacific office. Non-payment of your bill can also result in the plan's being canceled by the company.
