Sierra Pacific Power Feature Stories

No chestnuts were roasting, but hammers were pounding and paintbrushes flying as Sierra Pacific participated in Christmas in April - Truckee Meadows.

Along with its sister utility, Nevada Power, Sierra Pacific was proud to be a part of Christmas in April, a volunteer organization that is rebuilding America, one home at a time. Based in the American barn-raising tradition, Christmas in April transforms people's homes and lives by providing warmth, safety and independence to the elderly, disabled and families in need.

Twenty-three volunteers from Sierra Pacific and Microsoft Licensing Ltd. worked together on Saturday, April 28, to renovate the home of Reno resident Robert Challender, who is severely disabled. Extensive repairs were made to the home, including roof repairs; replacement of an old furnace with a new, energy-efficient model; house painting; installation of six double-pane windows; extensive yard work; caulking and weather-stripping; and some interior work. An added surprise was the delivery of a new, energy-efficient refrigerator.

Christmas in April is a nationwide effort that began in 1973. The organization now has chapters in all 50 states Each year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers complete much-needed home renovations for low-income seniors and disabled citizens.
